Architecture and interiors: which kit to choose
Architecture is all about straight lines and a wide enough field of view. The wide-angle lenses I have in stock, which body to pair with them and how to keep your lines straight.
With architecture and interiors, the key is keeping lines straight and getting a wide enough field of view. Pairing the right body with a wide-angle lens gets you professional results – as long as you know what to watch out for.
Wide-angle lenses in stock
Right now I have three wide-angle lenses for Sony E in stock, and they make a great foundation for both architecture and interiors:
- Sony FE 14 mm f/1.8 GM – the widest view, ideal for cramped interiors.
- Sony FE 24 mm f/1.4 GM – for exteriors and smaller halls.
- Sony FE 16–35 mm f/2.8 GM – a zoom for flexible composition.
All three are optically excellent, even at the edges of the frame.
Choosing a body and checking used copies
The Canon EOS R6 and R6 Mark II offer excellent dynamic range, which you'll appreciate in interiors with a window in the frame. The Sony A7 IV takes these lenses natively and offers in-body stabilization and lens corrections. The Nikon Z6 II, with its in-body stabilization, is also a solid choice.
I recommend a body with a good electronic viewfinder that makes it easy to check your composition and lines. Still, no body can make up for the right lens.
With a used body, always check the shutter count. What really matters, though, is that everything works.
Practical tips for straight lines
Even with a great lens, technique makes the difference:
- Keep the camera level – ideally with the camera's built-in level or on a tripod.
- Turn on in-camera lens corrections – both Canon and Sony can fix distortion and vignetting automatically.
- In post-processing, apply the lens profile and use a perspective transform tool.
- Stitch panoramas – if your lens isn't wide enough, say only 35 mm, shoot several frames and merge them. It's often the only way to get the view you need without distortion.
